Flan Gallery application ported to Android 2.0
Thanks to mbm from the Sholes.info team, the Gallery application from 2.1 has been ported to 2.0.1! You can get it on your phone with a few simple steps.
Installation
- Download gallery_flan.apk to your computer.
- Copy gallery.apk file to your sdcard.
- On your phone go to Settings, then Applications and enable Unknown Sources.
- On your phone, use a file manager such as Astro to browse to the gallery.apk file. Tap the file and install it.
- You will now have two Gallery applications listed in your launcher -- the second one is the flan port. Tap it to launch the application.
Tips
- Try leaning your phone left and right while in the gallery application.
- Have a rooted device? Get rid of the duplicate Gallery app in your launcher by renaming the original Gallery.apk to Gallery.bak.

Hi. Any suggestions on where the original gallery.apk lives? I looked all over “/” but cannot find it. (I am on a non-rooted Droid. Not sure if I can rename it though, as it is not rooted.)

Looks like it is under /system/app/ but unfortunately I am getting a permission denied. I guess I’ll root the device when I get a free moment. Oh well.

Yeah, sorry… I should have mentioned to do that you need a rooted device to get at it. I’ll be writing up some guides with pertinent information soon. Keep an eye out for them.

I dony have a rooted phone. I have android 2.1 and downloaded it and it works fine. Im using a droid eris

Soooooo much nicer. Thanks a lot!!!…But, yea, I’m not trying to delete the official apk…i can live with two gallery app icons for nice, and just put the new one on my home screen. Besides, the official update is coming within a month or two I’d imagine.

What device are you using it on? I have had no issues on my Droid running 2.0.1. Perhaps try downloading again and reinstalling.

its on my droid, 2.0.1. i have downloaded it again and again cant figure it out. everytime i open it it force closes. i guess i will have to wait for the office update one of these days. thanks though. it looks reaaly cool!!!

This app is RAD! (Yes, I grew up in the 80’s) It truly is 500% better than the original galary app, which sux!
However, as cool as this app is, I am twice as floored with the Swype keyboard! Simply stunning.

Easier install: Do step 3, then visit this page in phone’s browser, then click on the APK link and select “Package Installer” to open it. No USB cable required.

Excellent app, beautifull, just for us in europe with motorola milestone we have multi touch and would be just great to use it as we can in the standard galery :)

does this work on mytouch?i downloaded the app but when im going to download it through file manager it says it cant be downloaded.whats going on.i really want this app.

Anyone know why I can’t rename the apk file to Bak? I have a rooted moto Droid with the su permissions app. My file manager I normally use lets me change it but never saves the change. I tried other file managers and they error out when I try to change it saying insufficient permission or just fail.

@Brian: No offense, but if you can’t figure out a simple permissions issue you probably shouldn’t be mucking around in your phone as root.

tried installing this on my Eris following the steps above, and the install fails, says “application not installed: Gallery could not be installed on this phone”

I have an HTC Eris and I updated to 2.1 yesterday. if you update the steps above will allow you to run the application.

i have htc eris update 2.1. I installed 3d gallery today and encounter a problem when you flip the phone sideways gallery show up with double picture, has anyone encounter this issue please let me know

Awesome App, so much better than the stock Gallery. Running it on a Samsung Moment with 2.1 installed. Is there a way to ignore album art? Or ignore specific folders? Hate having to scroll past all my album covers to get to the real pictures.

i have a htc desire 2.2 and from the gallery when i tape the icon of the camera… the application crash down
